How to do Ghusl ?
Ghusl
Ghusl is a purification ritual which involves washing the entire body.
Allah says in the Quran, Surah al Maida, 5:7
O you who have believed, when you rise to [perform] prayer, wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows and wipe over your heads and wash your feet to the ankles. And if you are in a state of janabah, then purify yourselves.
▪ When to do?
It is fard (obligatory) to perform ghusl:
- When one converts to Islam
- After sexual intercourse
- After climaxing or ejaculating, as a result of foreplay or wet dreams etc.
- At the end of menstruation
- At the completion of postnatal bleeding.
- Upon death
It is mustahab (preferred) to perform ghusl:
- For Jummah salah
- When putting on the Ihraam for Hajj or Umrah
- After giving a ghusl to a dead person
▪ How to do Ghusl?
The Fard (obligatory) acts of Ghusl
- Making the intention in the heart
- Washing the entire body, not leaving any part dry
- Wetting the entire scalp and the roots of the beard
The Sunnah acts of Ghusl
- Reciting ‘bismillah’
- Washing hands up to the wrists
- Rinsing the mouth
- Rinsing the nostrils and blowing out water from them
- Wiping the ears
Begin ghusl with ‘Bismillah’ and with the niyyah (intention) to cleanse oneself from all forms of major impurities. Wash both hands three times. Then cleanse the private parts. Next, perform wudhu. Make sure the water reaches every part of the scalp and wash the head along with the ears three times. Then pour water over right side of the body from head to toe. Repeat the same for the left side. Make sure water reaches the inside of the naval, the armpits as well as beneath the knee area.
